Project Summary

Vision: Monterey County residents of diverse cultural backgrounds will interact with NAMC organizations confident in their ability to deliver programs and services that are welcoming and culturally appropriate.
NAMC member organizations will demonstrate a commitment to diversity by maintaining diverse and culturally-aware staffs and governing boards, and through engaging their communities in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs and services.

Mission: It is the mission of the Cultural Diversity Project to mentor the development of NAMC organizations in providing culturally appropriate services within an accepting environment that respects diversity.

Goal: Increase rate of service utilization by underrepresented population groups.

Key Concepts: NAMC’s constituency is the nonprofit community (as opposed to residents, consumers and clients). A fundamental principal of this project is to encourage  nonprofit agencies to seek input and guidance from their clients or consumers.

This project has an over-arching goal of systems or structural change – so consumers and clients have a real voice in programs and services.

The project will support diversity & inclusion capacity building (including use of the Racial/Social Equity Assessment tool) for nonprofits. However, we see capacity building as a means to systemic change, and not an end in itself.

This project should align with the other social equity diversity leadership efforts, e.g.,  Building Healthy Communities, Leadership Education and Development, and Community Leadership Project.
